About Tom
My name is Tom Birkhan, for over a decade I have dedicated my career to supporting individuals and their families in the Ottawa area, as they transition through the various chapters of life. A grounding philosophy of my work is to place my clients at the center of care. Utilizing my experience, I provide end of life support that is built on compassion and evidence-based support.
The dying process is embedded with a sense of uncertainty; and the fear of the unknown often leaves families and persons feeling alone. My inherent nature is to come to this process knowing that the individual and families require a professional who is genuine, patient and present to answer their most pressing and difficult questions.
I am a Developmental Services Worker and a certified Death Doula, having completed my accreditation through The Institute of Traditional Medicine. As well, I have extensive experience with senior support and Alzheimer’s and Dementia care. The combination of education and experience provides the skillset to manage a multitude of situations in a confident and meaningful manner.

My Philosophy
Personally, as a death doula, I focus on the dying person's desires, needs, and requirements, as well as their family's. I advocate to provide unique, person-centred care and a safe environment during this difficult time.
The Logo's Meaning

My logo is based on the Dara Celtic Knot. This particular design is based on the roots of the ancient Oak tree which is made up of intertwined lines with no beginning or end.

The ancient Celts saw the Oak tree as a symbol of inner strength, power, wisdom, and endurance.

They would call upon this symbol during difficult times.
