Inspired by my mentor, my grandfather, I’ve chosen the name Sine Metu, which in Gaelic stands for Without Fear. I feel this encompasses my approach and perspective on life as well as death.
What is an end-of-life doula?
The word "doula" is Greek for servant or helper. A death doula supports a person in their dying process similar to how a birth doula supports women during the labour process.
Doulas provide support and comfort, while growing trust and meaningful relationships, which help reduce the fear around end-of-life journeys. The death doula guides the dying person and their family through the stages of the dying process.
Death doula practices are focused on a person-centred approach, which allows for the needs, desires, and wishes to be respected and coordinated in a profound manner.
Death ends a life, not a relationship
